Fruited Rice

Fruited Rice



2 tablespoons melted butter or oil

1 tablespoon GravyMaster®

3 stalks celery, sliced

1 large onion, chopped

2 packages (6oz each) regular long grain and wild rice

(do not substitute fast cook or microwave varieties)

1 cup dried fruit (cranberries, chopped apricots, or chopped apples)

4 cups boiling water

½ cup nuts (sliced almonds, chopped pecans, or chopped walnuts)

Chopped fresh parsley



1.     Preheat oven to 375°F.

2.     In 3 quart casserole, combine butter and GravyMaster®. Add celery and onion and stir well to coat. Stir in rice mix and fruit.  Add water and combine thoroughly.

3.     Cover and bake 45 to 50 minutes or until rice is tender, stirring twice during last half of baking time.  Remove from oven and stir in nuts.  Cover and let stand 10 minutes. Sprinkle with parsley and serve.
